What is our mission?

At Birch Tree Therapies, our mission is to deliver exemplary school-based therapy services to students in the Philadelphia region through a team of exceptionally trained and supported therapists.

How are we different?

What distinguishes us is our unique approach – a business led by therapists, not solely by business professionals. Our commitment extends beyond service provision; we are dedicated to empowering therapists to achieve their utmost potential. We demonstrate this dedication through competitive wages, a commitment to hiring employees rather than contractors, and comprehensive training opportunities. We believe in creating a strong rapport between the school communities we serve and the therapists servicing their students.

Why are we called Birch Tree?

At our core, we are guided by the symbolism of the birch tree, representing new beginnings and boundless growth. It is this very ideology that underpins our business. We are dedicated to fostering growth, not only for therapists but also for students and schools alike. We strive to cultivate an environment where both students and therapists have the opportunity to flourish and thrive, as we plant the seeds of success and watch them blossom into remarkable achievements.

How did we get started?

Birch Tree Therapies was born out of a shared vision and a commitment to filling a crucial gap in support for school-based therapists. Our journey began when three passionate therapists, driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, identified a glaring issue. Too often, contract staffing agencies simply throw therapists into challenging school situations without the necessary support. Fueled by our dedication to creating a more supportive and nurturing environment, Anastasia, Didi, and Jenna, leveraged their expertise to establish Birch Tree Therapies.

Anastasia Smith received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2013 from Columbia University. She has dedicated her entire career to serving the pediatric population in and around the Philadlephia area. Early in her career she worked full time in a leading children's hospital where she built an incredible foundation of skills to treat children with multi faceted needs from birth to 21 years of age. In 2019, she transitioned from a demanding hospital setting to a school-based setting to continue to pursue a career she felt so passionate about while also accommodating her growing family needs. In this transition, Anastasia discovered a glaring need for collaboration, mentoring, additional resources and support for school based physical therapists. She worked for several contracting agencies that knew little about the schools she was serving and her responsibilities and role as a school based physical therapist. In 2020, Anastasia established her own LLC so she could better advocate for her own needs as a professional and the needs of the students she was serving. Anastasia is committed to empowering other pediatric physical therapists secure a rewarding yet flexible career in the school setting with emerging opportunities for professional growth. By sharing her expertise and knowledge, she helps ensure that physical therapists, at all stages in their career, can thrive in the school setting.

Dianira "Didi" Hernández Meyer is an experienced native bilingual (Spanish/English) and bicultural Speech-Language Pathologist, proud Philadelphian, and alumna of Central High School and Temple University (both undergraduate and graduate programs). Since 2015, she has primarily served the Latino community by providing bilingual speech and language services to charter schools and early intervention programs. Didi is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist accredited and recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as a Bilingual Service Provider. Additionally, she holds a Level II Teacher Certification from the Department of Education in Speech and Language Impairment. In 2021, she transitioned from a salaried employee to an independent contractor enabling her to secure direct contracts with schools while balancing her professional aspirations with the responsibilities of motherhood. Didi's therapy approach centers on evidence-based techniques, cultural sensitivity, and a nurturing attitude embracing neurodiversity and bilingualism. Committed to making a difference, she offers guidance and support to fellow speech therapists, acknowledging the profession's evolving nature and challenges.

Jenna Hannan is an Occupational Therapist who earned her degree from Thomas Jefferson University in 2016. With a steadfast commitment to pediatric therapy, she has specialized in working with children ages 3 to 21. Within her school-based practice, Jenna prioritizes fostering meaningful relationships, nurturing self-esteem, and equipping students with the skills to advocate for themselves. She has participated in a variety of pediatric training, focusing on neurodiversity affirming practice and has received her Board Certification in Pediatrics from AOTA. Jenna is impassioned by the prospect of guiding new graduates and emerging therapists toward success in school-based therapy. Having experienced the challenges of being a new graduate working for an agency that provided no mentorship firsthand, Jenna is determined to provide the support she once sought to help therapists grow to navigate their first jobs with confidence and competence. Jenna has been dedicated to fostering growth among new therapists, serving as a Level I and II fieldwork educator and working as a lab instructor at Thomas Jefferson University. Through these roles, Jenna imparts invaluable insights and fosters the growth of future generations of therapists, ensuring they are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to the field.
